One of the many tips I learnt from the wonderful Michelle Pye of The English Couture Company was how to trim my corners properly. Read on if you too would like to know the best way to do this so that you reduce bulk in your sewing; this post was written when I was making my Lazy Daisy Cushion Cover, but works equally well for all types of sewing including dressmaking (and if you are interested in dressmaking, please do take a look at Michelle’s workshops here, they are AMAZING!)
So, here’s a corner. Step 1 is to cut across it…

…like this…

…to get this shape. However, there’s more! Step 2 is to trim the corner further…

…like this…

…and this…

…to get this effect. You have trimmed the bulk of your corners right down, and when you turn your fabric the right way out, after a lovely press with the iron, you’ll have a nice sharp finish. Very satisfying.

I hope that little gem helps you as much as it has helped me to get a nice, professional finish with all my sewing.
